9/52, part of the 52 project.
Recycling old crayons was a project that’s been on my mind for a little while now. Odin has a lunchbox full of crayons and some of them have been broken for awhile. I’m of the belief that an excess prevents quality play and seeing as how we’ve collected so many crayons over the past couple years, we thought it would be smart to combine crayons into bigger chunks. This way, the crayon box isn’t so overwhelming when Odin wants to use them. We’ve also been practicing colors for awhile now so this project was the perfect thing to do at O’s age. We sorted color groups into a muffin pan, Zak tried to mix a few to make them interesting but Odin wanted nothing to do with it and would put the colors with their families. We baked in the oven for 10-20 minutes at 250°F and then put the pan out on the snow (no freezer necessary this time of year). Odin had a ton of fun pulling the papers off the crayons, breaking them (his favorite), sorting them, and peeling the muffin papers off afterwards. Zak and I loved making these too!
