I recently connected with the lovely Rebecca of The Moon House in Vermont who introduced me to the beautiful handwoven wrap company West 4th Weaving. I don’t have much experience with handwoven textiles but I do know I appreciate the work that goes into such beautiful pieces. I’ve seen the kids at Odin’s school weaving on the loom and it looks so meditative. There’s a loom in the house we’re moving into this month and in my dreams, I will try my hand at weaving myself!
The sling I was sent to try is 100% cotton. The name of it is Signature and it’s made in a brown weft. These autumn colors are my favorite hues lately so of course, immediately upon opening the package, I had already fallen in love. I have the wrap version in my shopping cart online and it’s taking everything in me not to order it until after the holidays.
The sling has a pleated shoulder unlike any other I’ve tried. I’ve tried a few slings with a tighter pleat that ended up really hurting my shoulder. This sling has a much wider pleat that really makes the sling stay in place on my shoulder while spreading enough to offer a lot of comfort. It also comes with the option of a gathered shoulder instead which is always a win!
I don’t think I’m as experienced as many people when it comes to baby carriers, but if you followed me when Odin was a baby you know my love for slings. This one was super soft right out of the box. Comparable to another sling I have that is woven from tussah silk, but only after I had worn that sling exclusively for months.
So what I’m trying to say is, these come highly recommended. I’ve used this sling pretty exclusively since it’s arrival and I think it may be Saoirse’s sling. I plan to keep it long after she’s grown and give it to her when she becomes a mama. That way I can remember these fleeting moments whenever I see her carry her babies.
You can shop for this Signature sling or wrap here. (As long as you promise not to buy all the 6s!)
