On the third night of song, she crept out of bed, pulled on her coat, lit her lantern, and quietly left the house. She made her way down the well worn path towards the Tally-Ho, her own boat she’d made with her father when she was only three. She was going to discover the song’s source and why she was the only one who could hear it.

She sailed out into the harbor, following the songs notes as they flowed over the oceans gentle waves. She sailed until the music stopped and there she froze, holding her lantern over the water, admiring the mirrored stars floating all around her. She waited and she watched.

After just a few seconds she saw flashes of silver grey. She knew the seals well and their playful dances always made her smile. She found comfort in watching them by candlelight.
She snapped out of her trance when the figure just below the water surfaced. What she saw was not a seal at all, but a girl.
